The most favorite thing I did the first part of summer was attending the Addison Square Park Fourth of July Festival with my family.  Though it may seem like just another holiday, this was the first family outing since I have been away at Texas State. It wouldn't be a family outing without a bit of bickering. My siblings and I argued, our parents argued, and we argued with our parents, but I still found myself smiling.  The food was great, the show was great, and the company was greater. We splurged on turkey legs, ice cream and just about any fried food combination you could think of.  The best part of the day was our last-minute decision to attend a 11 p.m. showing of the new Jurassic Park film. Now even though my mom is only 42 years old, she like to go to bed as early as 8 p.m. so for her to agree to this was a big deal. The night consisted of laughs and trips down memory lane. I felt like a kid again and throughout the day I was happy and carefree. Oh, and I c

My collection

One thing that I have collected for a long time are holiday cards. These include birthday cards, Christmas cards, Valentine’s Day cards etc.   What makes them special is that they came from my parents. Even when I would give them trouble as a kid, they would always make sure all holidays were nothing but special and memorable. I enjoy reading back on what they have to say as I have grown up throughout the years.   Each message is written with so much love and it I feel that throwing their words away would be  disrespectful,  even though they probably don’t remember half of what they write.   Each card holds a memory at some point in my life and I feel that looking back on them when I am a lot older will bring laughs and cheesy smiles.

My Long-Time Collection

As I've expressed earlier this semester, rocks have always been my thing. It's kind of unconventional, and most would say boring, but I've just always been fascinated by them. Being an only child, I didn't grow up with the joys of having a sibling sidekick or someone always there to play with. So, that resulted in making my own fun and going on "treasure hunts" in my backyard (big National Geographic Channel fan). I was mostly interested in fossils, petrified wood and arrowheads. Unfortunately, I can't say I ever found an arrowhead, but the hundreds of pieces of petrified wood and fossils made up for it I guess. A family member of mine came up to me when I was really young and said, "You know, there's people called archeologists that study rocks as their job." It was that moment when I took on the phrase, "I want to be an archeologist when I grow up." Of course that only lasted until I was old enough to realize that maybe that&#

Blog #4 - Personal Hobby

I don't have hobbies, really. I mean, I used to collect Pokemon cards back in the day, but I stopped after I became a first-generation Pokemon Master . By the time I got to high school, I started to focus on being a social butterfly. After high school however, I was blessed by the greatest invention to ever grace the airwaves. RuPaul's Drag Race premiered in 2009. I got to see what drag is and could be. Here in Texas, pageant style drag is everywhere and prominent. But with RPDR , I got see how many different styles of drag there is. Punk, goth, realness, showgirl, spook, camp and comedy are just a few styles that exist within the drag world. Well after this discovery, I began practicing makeup and seeing what I could do. In the beginning, I looked like a mess. I'm talking Anna Nicole Smith presenting at the 2004 American Music Awards type of mess. I began to slowly amass a collection of makeup. My Most Cherished Memory at Texas State

My journey here at Texas State has been one I will remember and keep for the rest of my life. Although, my college career didn’t start here, I still consider myself a native to San Marcos. I started here at the end of my sophomore year and I still had some hours I needed to complete to become a junior. I instantly fell in love with campus and the environment around it. I definitely found my niche here at Texas State. There are so many amazing memories I’ve experienced here and to pick just one has been a challenge. The one memory that sticks out to me the most was the time I walked around campus with my dad.             Walking around campus with my dad may not seem like a momentous memory or event, but it’s definitely one that I hold close to my heart. My dad is a Texas State Alumni and so was his father. Naturally when I first started here, he wanted to give me the tour of campus. I remember being in such awe of the campus and listening to my dad talk about his memories here made

There are many memories from my time at Texas State that I will cherish forever, but my biggest one isn’t a specific memory, but a feeling. That feeling is youth. It’s been hard and I’ve had to learn how to be an adult and make mature decisions and because of this, I’ve forgotten how young I still am and how this four year period is the last i’ll have in my life without the glaring stresses of actual adulthood (not the one i’ve been living in my on-campus apartment, but the one with mortgages and car notes). So what I’ll remember of Texas State when I’ve moved on to a different city is the green of the trees, the blue of the river water, the cream of the buildings, and the sound of laughter. I’ll remember the good times I had here right along with the bad times, looking back at all of it as part of the experience and learning process. I'll remember the professors, the class work, the entire journey to getting my degree, and I'll remember all of it very fondly.

My favorite thing I did during the first part of the summer was frequent the pool at my apartment complex and the local bubble tea shop, which is called “Teapioca”. I chose these two locations as my favorite part because I was taking summer classes every day in May and June, just as I am right now. The pool and Teapioca were quiet, calm places that kept me sane during the times where I had nothing else to do after class and no friends to hang out with during this off-season time where no one is in town. a dip in the water or a refreshing beverage sure can do a lot for your mental health! I can also count being in San Marcos in general as my favorite part of the summer. The vibe here during the summer, where no one is here except actual San Marcos residents and the handful of college students that regret enrolling in summer classes, is a very special kind of calm.
