Blog 1: Rambler of Randomness

Howdy,

When it comes to retaining random information, I consider myself an authority. I am the youngest of three and undoubtedly the black sheep of my family. We've come to cherish each other's differences, but as a kid it was rough. I wanted my family to understand me, but we didn't speak the same social language. I liked science and art. They like sports and entertainment. I like rock music, they like reggae. I hate vanilla ice cream and they buy it by the pint.

Due to distance on common ground between us, I spent a lot of time reading as a kid. I would read dictionaries, phone books, manuals, you name it. If it was lying around the house on a hot summer day and I was stuck indoors because my brother didn't want to play, I would be reading it.

Another habit that I picked up around this time was obsessing over pop culture and music history. I don't necessarily listen to pop music, but I find people's engagement with media (which is then transformed to art, reverse and repeat) to be fascinating. I would sit up watching late night talk shows and VH1 specials. Every Sunday, I would steal pieces of the paper from my parents to get my fix.

In short, I am the ideal Trivial Pursuit teammate. Try me.

Best,

Jess
