Contributing Blog Piece: Chlöe Swarbrick

Sidenote: I totally goofed and thought this was an assignment. I already wrote it and felt that it would be a waste to delete. Enjoy!

Howdy,

For this week's blog, I'd like to discuss Chlöe Swarbrick. Swarbrick is a member of New Zealand's Parliament as a part of the Green Party List. After the US election, I had a brief period of time where I wanted to move to New Zealand. This was a childhood dream of mine and it seemed like as good a time as any!

As you can see, I have not moved to New Zealand. However, I did begin to learn about New Zealand politics. I figured it would be within my best interest to learn about a countries politics before escaping my own. At 17, Swarbrick was a high school drop out. She thought about studying philosophy at a university but was more or less unsure of what she wanted to do. She eventually attended the Universtiy of Auckland where she graduated with a two bachelor's in Law and Philosophy. In 2012, she began her first business and started working for a student radio station.

Through Swarbrick's short, but substantial career she found herself progressing towards working in politics. The first time she ran for Mayor of Auckland, she came in third place. Swarbrick is now the youngest politician to enter New Zealand's Parliament since Marilyn Waring in 1975.

I may not move to New Zealand tomorrow, but I'm constantly in awe of Chlöe and what she brings to her community. At every obstacle, she acknowledges that she is a young woman, but she is also a young woman with a voice. In short, Chlöe Swarbrick is a queen.
