Favorite Summer Memory


My favorite memory from this summer was my trip to Manchester, Tennessee to be a part of Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. This was my first trip to Tennessee and I got the chance to meet a lot of amazing people in the entertainment industry from this experience. I spent 12 days on a farm in what can only be described as a converted shipping container. They were equipped with power, A/C, and running water. It was definitely a lot better than actually camping out in a tent.

The team I worked with consisted of seven staff members plus 16 other college students and together we coordinated approximately 4,000 volunteers that Bonnaroo operates on. For the first few days, staff were the only ones allowed on the property so we just relaxed and got to know each other by playing games, scavenger hunts and going on multiple tours of the festival grounds. Once the volunteers were able to come on to the site we assisted them with everything from parking and helping them set up their campsite to checking them in for their shifts and driving volunteers to their assignments. We all worked hard and also played hard. I got to enjoy some great music from The Killers and Eminem, eat different foods like fried gator tail and see incredible art installations.

This experience was truly an honor, the connections I made and how much I learned from working on this event was incredible, I didn't want it to end. I'll be back for my second Bonnaroo next year.

Blog 2 (posted on drop box on 7/22)

The most favorite thing I did the first part of summer was attending the Addison Square Park Fourth of July Festival with my family.  Though it may seem like just another holiday, this was the first family outing since I have been away at Texas State. It wouldn't be a family outing without a bit of bickering. My siblings and I argued, our parents argued, and we argued with our parents, but I still found myself smiling.  The food was great, the show was great, and the company was greater. We splurged on turkey legs, ice cream and just about any fried food combination you could think of.  The best part of the day was our last-minute decision to attend a 11 p.m. showing of the new Jurassic Park film. Blog #2

My favorite thing I did during the first part of the summer was frequent the pool at my apartment complex and the local bubble tea shop, which is called “Teapioca”. I chose these two locations as my favorite part because I was taking summer classes every day in May and June, just as I am right now. The pool and Teapioca were quiet, calm places that kept me sane during the times where I had nothing else to do after class and no friends to hang out with during this off-season time where no one is in town. a dip in the water or a refreshing beverage sure can do a lot for your mental health! I can also count being in San Marcos in general as my favorite part of the summer. The vibe here during the summer, where no one is here except actual San Marcos residents and the handful of college students that regret enrolling in summer classes, is a very special kind of calm.
